Contentment is the Key to Happiness

Be content and you will find happiness

This life is a bridge we go over to the Hereafter

Don't get too attached to it, and be satisfied with what you have

The Hereafter is more important, so do your best for an eternal happy life close to God

The Quran Speaks of Happiness

The concept of happiness in Islam is expressed in the Quran and Sunnah in a number of different ways.

First, we find the Quran discussing the “good life”. Allah says:

{Whosoever does right, whether male or female, and is a believer, we shall make them live a good life, and We shall pay them a recompense in proportion to the best of what they used to do.} (16: 97)

This “good life” is happiness itself...

The Many Facets of Happiness in Islam

We are happiest when we are the least inhibited in acknowledging and expressing how we feel. This is the case whether we are in the company of those we know or those we do not know. Expressing our feelings should not carry with it a sense of dread as if we are disclosing the most sensitive of state secrets.

We are happiest when we shed our ostentation and inflated sense of self-importance, so we can really listen to ourselves and acknowledge our inner needs and aspirations.

We are happiest when we are not pining after unrealistic and overly idealistic dreams but look at our lives naturally, without shame, and without exaggerating things.

We are happiest when we focus keenly on the experience of the moment, taking note of the billions – nay trillions – of blessings that are right in front of us.

Allah’s generosity extends to each living cell of our bodies and to everything on the land, the air, and in the sea. His grace extends to all the intangibles as well, like those feelings and sensations that we cannot describe in physical terms. Faith is a good example, love, pleasure, the apprehension of language, longing, joy, hope…

3 Steps Lead to Everlasting Happiness

Happiness is the universal goal of people from all walks of life – be they philosophers of a high intellectual caliber or unlettered laborers — everyone strives in search of happiness and looks for ways to escape the worries of life.

However, most people achieve only partial or superficial happiness, which provides temporary relief from their problems...

May Allah Always Keep you Smiling

Most people, including myself think the goal is to be happy.

We search and search for happiness in people, in gifts, in money, in life, in vacations, in a new job, in a shopping trip, in food.

In everything we do: we look for happiness, otherwise why would we do it?...

Assalamu Alaikum!!
“Whoever sets the Hereafter as his goal, God gathers his affairs for him, gives him richness of (faith in) the heart and the world will come to him grudgingly and submissively.” (Ibn Maajah, Ibn Hibbaan)

5 Ways to Achieve Happiness

Islam teaches us to have hope; through this teaching we are able to find understanding for the feelings and emotions we go through. Islam has the power to remove us from sadness and into a light full of happiness, even if the external environment is one that does not appear to be perfect.

The world is not perfect. Dunya was made to be a test for the believer. If dunya was perfect, why would be we striving for Jannah? We would want to stay here forever but we know that there is something much better than this...

Three Tips to Finding Spiritual Happiness

Sister Yasmin suggests three main components for finding happiness:

1- The Remembrance of God: this is the oxygen of the hearts

2- Gratitude and Thankfulness for what we have

3- Whatever you focus on grows.

So focus on the light rather than the darkness.

Time, not material goods, 'raises happiness'

Using money to free-up time is linked to increased happiness, a study says.

In an experiment, individuals reported greater happiness if they used £30 ($40) to save time - such as by paying for chores to be done - rather than spending the money on material goods.

Psychologists say stress over lack of time causes lower well-being and contributes to anxiety and insomnia.

Yet, they say even the very wealthy are often reluctant to pay people to do the jobs they dislike.

"In a series of surveys we find that people who spend money to buy themselves more free time are happier - that is they have higher life satisfaction," said Dr Elizabeth Dunn, a psychologist professor at the University of British Columbia, Canada...

Interesting research findings which confirms that the focus on money and the material side of life does not lead to happiness.

Time is indeed very precious, and Islam encourages us after work to give time to our families and of course time to worship God.

Finding the right balance in life is very important.

Gratitude for What We Have

Thanking our Creator for the many bounties He gave us is an important key to finding happiness.

As mentioned by sister Dunia Shuaib from Dallas:

"Allah is pleased with and loves those who are grateful.

When we practice gratitude, we feel more connected to Him.

We learn to see everything as gifts from Him.

As a result, our worship becomes more sincere, and we will, inshaAllah become stronger in our faith."

Try keeping a Gratitude Journal where each day you write down five things you are grateful for.

Count your blessings and you will find happiness and inner peace.

Real Happiness is in Serving Others

I was listening to part of a talk by Sheikh Hamza Yusuf today where he was comparing egocentricity with serving others.

He said that real happiness is found in serving others, and this is true.

Altruism is a virtue which is highly praised in Islam, and God loves those who deal with others with excellence and altruism.

He loves those who take care of the poor and those in need, and these acts of goodness bring a believer closer to God, which is where real happiness is found.
