Gratitude: A Key to Happiness

Allah tells us in the Quran that He will increase those who are in the constant state of gratitude.

Those who are grateful recognize even the most seemingly minute blessings, such eggs on toasts for breakfast. They also recognize the blessings that are often forgotten, like efficient lungs, and the ten fingers and toes.

They even recognize blessings that come in the form of trials, like missing out on a job promotion or catching the flu. This type of gratitude is all in the form of well-knowing that Allah has a plan greater beyond one’s understanding and imagination...

Contentment

Contentment is a sign of true belief.

It is the greatest door that one enters to Allah (SWT) and it is the source of tranquility for the believer.

In the spiritual sense, patience means to stop ourselves from despairing and panicking and to stop our tongues from complaining.

Contentment is an important key for happiness and peace.

Don't Forget That Life is a Test

When you go through times of hardship or face difficulties, don't forget that life is a test.

We are here to get to know God, follow His Straight Path, and be patient at times of tests, grateful at times of ease till we leave this world.

Sometimes, when you go through a period of plenty that can also be a test, as God wants you to spread the bounties He gave you to those around you.

And one very important key to help us through any test is the advice of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him:

Always remember those who have less than you, not those who have more.

Think Win-Win for a better world for all...

Faith and Trust in God Leads to Happiness

Paradise on earth for a believer is feeling connected to our Creator.

This connection comes through the remembrance of God, and this is what gives tranquility to the heart.

God says in the Qur'an:

Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah.

Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured
.
(13:28)

When the spiritual heart is tranquil, the soul is happy and in a state of peace and serenity.

Gratefulness Impacts Happiness – Psychological Take

As an advocate for positive psychology, I see the benefit of gratefulness as part of a healing process as well as an everyday lifestyle.

It employs an element of optimism and happiness. Instead of seeing the pantry as half-empty, choose to see it as half-full and say THANK YOU to your higher power.

Be grateful and optimistic instead of negative and pessimistic.

Say Alhamdulillah which means all thanks and praise to God.

These are the beginning steps towards working for self-actualization and happiness.

Appreciate even the smallest things and remember gratefulness impacts happiness as well as our spirituality...
