Muslims in Memphis Kick Off Month-long Event

MEMPHIS – In an effort to draw awareness to the true teachings of Islam, the initiative themed “Muslims in Memphis Month” kicked off in several mosques in Memphis on Saturday, March 2, maintain the successful event for almost two decades.

“If you want to know the authentic religion of Islam, if you want to know about it, you really need to come out and listen from a Muslim side,” Isam Abu-Khraybeh, Muslims In Memphis President, told Local Memphis.

“You know, sometimes, the media out there can be very deceiving. A lot of people have their own interpretations of Islam that doesn’t necessarily make it true.”

Launched on Saturday, the month-long celebration will include open house events at local mosques around the area.

Since 2001, the Muslim community has hosted a series of events to promote understanding and opportunity for fellowship and interaction with people of the Muslim faith.

This year’s theme is “Keeping Our Humanity In Modern Times.”...

UK Faiths Unite in Solidarity with NZ Muslims

LONDON – British Muslims, Christians, Jews, those of other faiths and those without faith gathered at Regents Park Mosque in London for #ActingInSolidarity, a program put together by the Naz Legacy Foundation in response to the terrorist atrocity in Christchurch.

“Those who attack Muslims in this country or elsewhere attack every human being. For Muslims who are under threat, we will be with you,” said Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Such was the Archbishop’s frustration, and he continued, “Hatred of Muslims denies and blasphemes Christ. Those who co-opt Christian language in history for hatred, the new ideas of a Europe of so-called Christendom to be defended against Islam that is blasphemy.”...

CHRISTCHURCH – A ‘human chain of love’ is planned on Friday, March 22 around mosques in New Zealand to support the Pacific nation’s Muslims after the terrorist attack which killed 50 of them and left dozens with life-threatening injuries, News Hub reports.

Auckland Muslims Return Love to New Zealanders

“New Zealand we love you, you are us.”

Showered with love and support from their fellow New Zealanders, the Muslim community in Auckland city thanked people for their support after the terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand Herald reported.

“New Zealand we love you, you are us,” this was the message from Auckland Muslims, using the same words spoken by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Friday when she addressed the families of people killed in the mosque attacks: “You are us.”

“We feel a lot better with the support we’ve had throughout New Zealand,” Sonny Tazeem Ali, speaking for the board of trustees of the Māngere Muslim school Al-Madinah, said.

“We feel all New Zealand is standing behind us supporting us. Our children feel supported. You just don’t know how much it means to us.”...

Ireland Allows Muslim Police Officers to Wear Hijab

The police service of Ireland announced on April 4 it would follow the footsteps of its Scottish and Northern Ireland counterparts by allowing Muslim female officers to wear the hijab, Irish Legal reported.

“I hope this move will encourage people from minority communities to join the ‘An Garda Síochána’ police service,” expressed Commissioner Drew Harris.

He further informed that Sikh citizens will also be allowed to wear their traditional turban...

Volunteers Support Dunedin Muslim Community

In a remarkable reaction to the Christchurch tragedy, people in New Zealand’s second largest city of Dunedin have raced to volunteer and support Muslims.

Hundreds of people have put their hands up to help either by trying to upgrade mosque security, help with cooking, gardening, transportation, or accompanying Muslim women, Otago Daily Times reported.

Volunteers just wanted to offer the “everyday kindnesses that have sometimes been forgotten,” Dunedin City Council community development and events manager Joy Gunn said...

Ipswich Supports Its Growing Muslim Community

Following the Christchurch massacre last month, Ipswich Quakers and other members of the British city’s community have paid a visit to the Ipswich mosque where they met with representatives of the Muslim community.

This remarkable gesture demonstrates an act of showing love and support for the minority group, Ipswich Star reported.

“In the 80s when the former fire station opened as Ipswich’s first mosque, just a small roomful of worshippers would gather. It was very run down and dilapidated and our community was very small,” informed mosque secretary, Fotik Miah.

The visitors of the ‘open mosque day’ were welcomed by around 400 Muslim worshippers who gathered for the Friday prayer at Bond Street Mosque, filling the building to near capacity...
