New York Muslims & Jews Gather for Lunch & Fellowship

NEW YORK – The Jewish Center and Federation of the Twin Tiers and the Islamic Association of the Finger Lakes (IAFL) in New York, the USA announced teaming up next Sunday, April 14 to host a potluck lunch, My Twintiers reported on April 10.

“One of the things that have been bothering me personally, and as an organization, is that we have these two organizations in this area, the Jewish community, and the Islamic community, we’ve so much in common, and yet we essentially don’t interact with each other,” said Marcus Kantz, President of the Jewish Center and Federation of the Twin Tiers.

Last March, Kantz reached out to the imam of the IAFL’s mosque and said, “isn’t there some way we can get together as people, and he said ‘that’s a wonderful idea.’”

The event will be held at 2 pm at the headquarters of IAFL which is located on Hickory Grove Rd. in Horseheads. All members of the Jewish or Muslim communities are invited to attend, and bring a vegetarian main dish, salad or dessert...

This Muslim Student Had Nowhere to Pray, And California Community Opened Their Doors

When an 18-year-old Muslim Malaysian exchange student needed a place for prayer in her new city in California, her neighbors were quick to open hearts and doors, Good News Network reported.

“I was so touched by the kind-hearted support I found,” Atul said in a school statement.

Atul, whose full name is Nur Adiatul Amiera Binti Zulkurnain, recently moved from Malaysia to attend the public Northcoast Preparatory Academy (NPA) in Arcata, California.

As a practicing Muslim, Atul prays five times a day. Though she was happy in Arcata, she quickly found that the city was not equipped with the prayer rooms that she was accustomed to in Malaysia...?

Reading the Qur'an as a Quaker

How do Quakers “love thy neighbor”? For Michael Birkel, it meant crossing religious boundaries to have meaningful conversations with his Muslim neighbors.

Everence helps people and organizations live out their values and mission through faith-rooted financial services.

The central mosque in Toronto, Masjid Toronto, held its first Ramadan Interfaith Iftar on Wednesday, May 15th as leaders of neighborhood churches and synagogues, as well as other religious leaders, joined the congregation to break the fast.

“Ramadan Mubarak everyone! It’s a pleasure to have with us tonight, our neighbors and our friends,” said Imam Dr. Wael Shehab in his welcoming remarks.

“Brothers and sisters, in the past few weeks, houses of worship of the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim communities around the world were attacked.”

“Now, we realize, more than any time before, that our enemy is one; those are the people who promote and trade in hate. As such, we must counter hate, and together we’ll do so, God Willing.”...

House of Lords Discusses Fasting in Different Religions

A few weeks after the month of Ramadan during which Muslims around the world  observed daily fasting, the Conservative Muslims Forum (CMF) brought together a panel of faith leaders Tuesday, June 18, to share the historical tradition of fasting in different religions.

Organized and managed by Mohammad Amin, Farukh Miah, and Lord Sheikh from the CMF, the program was held at the House of Lords, featuring six speakers covering the faiths of Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Bahaism, and Buddhism.

Here in the UK, fasting is traditionally associated with the Muslim faith whose adherents tend to be the most visible, whether this is due to the high volume of charitable donations during the month of Ramadan (over £100 million donated last year) or the growing number of evening iftar street parties where communities are brought together to share a meal.

Christianity comes second with the tradition of Lent, where adherents give up something, ranging from chocolate to meat...
