The Prophet's (Peace and Blessing be upon Him) Farewell Address is one of the most profound speeches in human history. In a few lines, the Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessing be upon Him) touched on issues ranging from sacred times and places, tribalism, race relations, usury, the guiles of Satan, women's rights, devotional acts, the universal brotherhood of Islam, the finality of his message, the incumbency of obedience of Quran and Sunnah and much more.

In this lecture series we delve into the depths of the meanings contained in this powerful and moving sermon.

We Must Love One Another

This short talk was delivered at Masjid At-Taqwa in Brooklyn NY .

Imam Zaid talks about how critically important it is for us to be loving and merciful to one another. A lot of the troubles within the ummah globally and locally boils down to lack of mercy and love.

"Sunni-Shia Hatred: A Disease We Must Fight"

Loneliness and isolation, Imam Zaid Shakir argues, have no place in an ummah of compassion and mercy.

He also addresses Sunni-Shia aggression and hatred, which he describes as a disease we must fight.

Being Mindful of Our Blessings

Imam Zaid Shakir explains how when Allah says in the Qur’an, “Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.” (Sarah Ra‘d 13:11) a huge component of this is in appreciation of one’s blessings.

Reflections on the Last Sermon

A powerful speech in Chicago last month by Imam Zaid Shakir on the Prophet's last sermon, at the MAS-ICNA Convention.

The precious advice that Prophet Muhammad gave humanity in his last Sermon (The Sermon of Farewell) shows how much Islam values and appreciates the concepts of social equality, brotherhood, individual liberty and mutual cooperation as a guiding light for humanity fourteen centuries ago.

After Life: Bliss or Torment?

Allah (SWT) says in the Qur'an:

"Seeing that you were dead and He gave you life. Then He will give you death, then again will bring you to life (on the Day of Resurrection) and then unto Him you will return." (Surah Baqarah 2: 28)

What happens to us when we die?

What is the soul?

Where are heaven and hell?

Is there a reckoning with the creator?

Questions such as these about death and dying have frightened and fascinated humanity since the beginning of time.

This session explores these existential questions by providing an overview of answers from the sacred scriptures. It examines the viability of reincarnation, the sensual imagery of Paradise, as well as what to make of near-death experiences.

Theological scholarship combined with insight and sensitivity make this session thoroughly translatable, a simple introduction to profound and complicated subjects...
