MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – A Muslim school basketball team in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has been shattering stereotypes, with all students winning games in their hijab and long sleeve suits.

“A lot of people think Muslim girls don’t know how to play,” lady Stars Coach Kassidi Macak told Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Chicago: As Temperatures Fall, US Muslim Family Offers Neighbors Help

MORTON GROVE, Chicago – As the temperature fell this week to subzero, a Chicago Muslim family is delivering hand-written letters to their neighbors, offering them help during the cold snap, Chicago Tribune reported.

“As temperatures dip way below zero, neighbors are the ones to help each other,” the letters written by Sabeel Ahmed and his wife, Asma Naheed, read.

The family of five delivered copies of hand-written letters to 40 homes in their neighborhood, offering to help in picking up groceries or medications, or clearing away snow.

“It was just a neighborly initiative to motivate the neighbors so more of them can hopefully connect with each other and get a sense of community,” Ahmed explained...

New York Muslim Charity Holds Food Giveaway for Needy

ROCHESTER, New York – A local Muslim charity in Rochester, New York, is hosting food giveaway on the first Saturday of every month, providing families in need with much-needed help during bitter winter days, WHAM reported.

“I know a lot of people are out of work. They need something to feed their family and kids, so to help the people once a month we can give them something to help them,” said Munye Abanur, Executive Committee Barakah Muslim Charity.

During Saturday’s event, about 120 families from the community picked up food.

Mosque Works to Clean Up, Expand in Las Vegas Crime-ridden Neighborhood

LAS VEGAS – A Las Vegas mosque’s effort to clean up a crime-ridden neighborhood is bearing fruits after a decade-long hard work, Las Vegas Now reported.

“It was a gang-riddled and drug infested area,” said Fateen Seifullah, Imam, Masjid As-Sabur.

The mosque was first opened in 1986 when Las Vegas was no longer known for its entertainment business.

Trying to change the status quo in the area, the mosque started purchasing some of the surrounding property and rent it out to families in need, creating the “Muslim Village.” ...
