Preserving the Tongue

Although it is physically small, the tongue can have a disproportionate impact on others and on our own state.

In this talk, Shaykh Abdal Hakim discusses how to control the tongue, and how it relates to our emotions and our hearts.

Breaking The Two Desires - Part 1

Breaking the two desires and the rememberance of death by Sh. Abdal Hakim Murad

Abdal Hakim Murad graduated from Cambridge University with a double-first in Arabic in 1983. He then lived in Cairo for three years, studying Islam under traditional teachers at Al-Azhar, one of the oldest universities in the world.

He went on to reside for three years in Jeddah, where he administered a commercial translation office and maintained close contact with prominent ulama from Yemen.

In 1989, Shaykh Abdal Hakim returned to England and spent two years at the University of London learning Turkish and Farsi. Since 1992 he has been a doctoral student at Oxford University, specializing in the religious life of the early Ottoman Empire.

He is currently Secretary of the Muslim Academic Trust (London) and Director of the Sunna Project at the Centre of Middle Eastern Studies at Cambridge University, which issues the first-ever scholarly Arabic editions of the major Hadith collections.

Shaykh Abdal Hakim is the translator of a number of works, including two volumes from Imam al-Ghazali's Ihya Ulum al-Din. He gives durus and halaqas from time to time and taught the works of Imam al-Ghazali at the Winter 1995 Deen Intensive Program in New Haven, CT.

He appears frequently on BBC Radio and writes occasionally for a number of publications, including The Independent; Q-News International, Britain's premier Muslim Magazine; and Seasons, the semiacademic journal of Zaytuna Institute.

Is Orthodox Islam Possible without Sufism?

An Excellent Talk by Sheikh Murad - Very Deep & Informative

Is orthodox Islam possible without Sufism?

Sufi World presents an exclusive lecture with Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad (Dr. Timothy Winter) who delivers a lecture of great importance at the VU University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

After breaking down the main question, Shaykh explains us what it actually means to be a Sunni Muslim and how Tasawwuf is at the heart of Islam. A powerful lecture and Q&A that cover the solution to most of today's issues.

We do not call Sunni Islam just Sunni Islam but Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah, the people of the Sunnah, because the ultimate point of authority is the Holy Prophet (ﷺ). We are not going to accept anybody's interference with that. Also the consensus of the scholars.

Thousands upon thousands purified souls and great scholarly minds discussing what the Hadith means and telling the Ummah what is the most likely interpretation. Not just an individual’s view of what the meaning might be.

Living with Our Selves

How can one leave the self behind on the path to Allah when we are the self?

This was the central paradox behind the sheikh's latest circle: living with our selves.
