Some of the most talented teachers explain Islam using humor.

They know that learning is not easy, so they try to make it an enjoyable experience, and through humor they convey important morals.

One of those teachers is Sheikh Hamza Yusuf, and here in this short video from a long talk he gave in Toronto, he tells the story of two men on a boat:

The Genuine Power of a Smile

Smiling doesn’t seem like a particularly complicated act.

You feel a happy emotion, the corners of your mouth turn up, your cheeks lift and your eyes crinkle.

Easy, however the overall effect tells the outside world that we’re feeling happy on the inside.

It’s simple and, in most cases, totally spontaneous and in fact can be contagious.

Think about it. It is no surprise that in Islam much attention is paid on how we, as Muslims, carry ourselves and present our religion and the simplest way is to smile.

In fact the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the best example in terms of smiling and making others happy:

“When you smile to your brother’s face, it is charity,” he often told his companions...

Teach and Learn Islam with a Smile

Although Islam is a relatively easy faith to fully embrace and practice, the initial stepping stones may seem stressful and arduous, as it carries connotations in lifestyle changes as well as the fundamentals that can be difficult to establish.

This is especially true if a new Muslim is coming from a lifestyle that was totally different.

On the outset, learning the religion can also seem difficult because it is so easy to get confused about Islam, especially with the amount of malignant information through the mainstream media about the religion and Muslims, and it can also become confusing when Muslims prioritize cultural teachings over and above what is taught in the Quran and Sunnah.

However, there is a lot more to the “seriousness” of Islam than meets the eye. Teaching and learning Islam encompasses a lot more than rigorous understanding about rituals and practices and many times – especially today – contemporary teachers of Islam infuse fun, games and humor into their classes and courses, to engage with their audiences and students...

How to Smile Like the Prophet Muhammad?

The Prophet’s natural disposition led him to smile and laugh along with the people around him.

The Positive Effects of Smiling

Consequently, if Prophet Muhammad smiled, it must innately be something good for both ourselves and the people around us.

Islam was designed by the Creator to be the perfect way of life for humankind thus sometimes the smallest of things can have a big impact.

A smile is one of those things. Therefore not surprisingly smiling has many positive effects...

Converts’ Stories of Hilarious Misunderstandings About Islam

Here are some stories of hilarious thoughts, incidents, and misinformation converts have tripped over on their way to becoming Muslim.

The Lingo – What Sara Thought of the Salam

In college, my whole class really bonded over how much stress the program put on us all.

I got especially close to a few Muslim classmates. But one thing that stuck out to me about the Muslim classmates was that one would say, “A salmon! I like him” a lot. And then the other would respond, “Well, I like him- salmon.”

I could not figure out why they would make such weird statements about fish with strange usage of the pronoun “him” ...

Does Islam Require Us to Be Strict?

We are required to have balance in life. To worship Allah, and even having fun can be part of that worship.

Do you know that by smiling or making another person smile is rewarded by Allah?

When I meet my friends for lunch (Muslims and Christians and even Atheists), just by following Islam, saying ‘Bismillah’ before I eat, ensuring that I am dressed appropriately & perhaps being a good friend to others is all an act of worship.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the very best Muslim and example of a human, himself had fun.

He smiled often and would make jokes with members of his community.

The Prophet brought an uplifting spirit that penetrated the hearts of people...

5 Prophet’s Hadiths About Smiling

According to historians, Prophet Muhammad was always cheerful and bright-faced.

😄 He always kept smiling in the face of his Companions to the extent that Abdullah ibn Al-Harith ibn Hazm said, “I have never seen anyone who smiles more than the Prophet does.” (At-Tirmidhi)

😃 Jarir ibn Abdullah said: “Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) never refused me permission to see him since I embraced Islam and never looked at me but with a smile” (Sahih Muslim).

😄 Moreover, Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:

You cannot satisfy people with your wealth, but satisfy them with your cheerful faces and good morals (Abu Ya`la and Al-Hakim; Authentic hadith).

😃 Abu Dhar narrated from the Prophet that he said,

Do not disdain a good deed, (no matter how small it may seem) even if it is your meeting with your brother with a cheerful face (Sahih Muslim).

😄 And, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Smiling in your brother’s face is an act of charity” (At-Tirmidhi; Declared Authentic by Al-Albani).
