Lady Nafisa

Sister Tamara Grey shed some light on the life of Sayyidah Nafisa, a great gran daughter of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, in this video.

She was born in Makkah in 145 AH where she started to memorize the Quran then moved with her father to Madinah where she learned hadith and attended knowledge circles at the Prophet's masjid.

She then got married and moved with her husband to Egypt in the year 195 AH.

A big delegation of Egyptians met them at the border at Arish to welcome them and traveled with them to Cairo where she and her husband were treated with much love and esteem.

She was a very virtuous woman who performed Hajj around 30 times and did a lot of charity work in Egypt and became so popular that her house was always full of people asking for her duaa and help.

Imam Shafei arrived in Cairo in the year 198 AH and on his way to Masjid Amr ibn Al As, he would each morning pass by the house of Lady Nafisa to learn from her.

Before he passed away from illness in the year 205, Imam Shafei would ask Lady Nafisa to pray for him, which she did and he would be cured till one day he asked for her duaa and she responded I pray you see Allah (SWT) in Jannah. And he soon passed away

She had prepared her own grave in her house where she completed reading the Quran around 190 times.

When she passed away her husband wanted to take her back to Madinah but the people of Cairo refused and she was buried in Cairo.

May the peace and mercy of Allah be upon her and on Imam Shafei, two great scholars of Islam

Ameen
