Do you men Islamically?

Asalaamu Alaikum,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gelatin - Gelatin made from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porcine - porcine skin or bones, which makes up roughly 50% of the supply of gelatin on the market, is forbidden. Gelatin made from other halal animals, fish for example, is acceptable.

In addition to this, most observant Muslims refrain from consuming food products that contain pure vanilla extract or soy sauce if these food products contain alcohol.

walaikoma assalam,

sister you can use maple syrup or almond extract instead. but for record, you can bake without any extract, The vanilla is added to your recipe only for the delicious flavor that it will impart, not as an essential bit of extra moisture. So you can just leave it.

You can also add a spoonful of vanilla custard powder in simple tea cake. :)

Salaam
