A Force of Faith

Everybody seems to be looking out for number one. Narcissism. Consumerism. The Me Generation.

But we all know great things never came from people who were just concerned about themselves or their little patch of ground.

The true force for change is service. Service to others. Service to community. Service because we can be greater and more blessed than we are. It's a force of faith.

In this timely iKhutbah, Shaykh Walead Mosaad explores the spiritual roots of service and the Prophetic call that should ignite a new generation into action. Government's can talk "big society", people of faith do it and make real change happen.

Overview of Key Themes and Meanings in Surah Kahf

Shaykh Walead Mosaad gives a concise overview of some meanings and themes found in Surah Kahf.

He explains that it is one of the oft recited chapters of the Qur'an and that it is significant to ward off the Dajjal.

In Surah Kahf there are lessons and parables that contain guidance on how to deal with the trials and tribulations that are associated with the Dajjal.

Shaykh Walead explains that theses trials and tribulations come in a process of successive decline before the the Dajjal and culminates with the coming forth of the Dajjal.

Shaykh Walead highlights that one of the major trials is battling against one's lower self and ego, and that one should humble themselves to God and have trust in Him.

Shaykh Walead also calls everyone to try to see things as they truly are and to beware of delusion.

Conception of Social Justice and Acting on It In The Islamic Tradition

Part 3 of the seminar "Social Justice In The Islamic Tradition: Righting wrongs, enjoining good, and honoring individual and community rights."

Social justice has been the focus in recent times of Muslim activists and communities.

More often than not, the methods and objectives employed in Muslim social justice work has drawn from practices of other communities and traditions not necessarily rooted in Islamic principles.

Does the Islamic tradition contain relevant principles that can be drawn upon to inform social justice work?

This Tour will seek to address that question.

Guarding Speech, Condemnation of Envy & Rancour - An Overview Ghazali's Ihya

In this lesson, visiting scholar, Shaykh Walead Mosaad, reviews the chapters on holding one’s tongue and condemnation of rancour and envy.

These chapters are originally written by Imam Ghazali in his book Ihya Ulum al-Din.

Shaykh Walead begins with the chapter on holding one’s tongue and the criteria for one should or should not speak.

One should know that there speech is significant and has an effect. In addition, speech is not limited to what we say, but also what we propagate on social media.

We have gotten into the habit of naming and shaming online in order to showcase that they’ve made a mistake. However, the sunnah of the Prophet was about having wisdom, and his speech was always measured.

As such, we should follow his example and not what we have become used to in our cultures or current state of affairs...
